Thermally bonded cotton batting
Warm Bond is the Warm Company's 80/20. Instead of using the non-woven polypropylene scrim that we use in Warm & Natural or glue like other bonded batting use, our poly fiber is manufactured to melt when it is run through a gentle heating process known as calendaring.
The polyester fibers slightly melt throughout the 100% natural cotton fibers holding them together to create a very soft, ultra light weight bonded batting. A first in the history of the Warm Company. This is a departure from our needlepunch manufacturing processing but essential in the manufacture of the ideal hand quilters' cotton batting so it doesn't get rigid. It is more delicate than needlepunch batting but with a little care it is easily used in quilt frames and long arm machines. Once quilted, machine wash and dry.
The soft, natural cotton goes through a gentle mechanical cleaning to pick out cotton plant and seed remnants. The tiny plant particles that remain lend a special look to crafts when used as an exterior fabric and will not damage your fabric when used in your quilt. Shrinkage will be about 3% with your first washing. Many quilters prefer not to pre-wash to achieve the unique effect created by the slight shrinkage of the batting when the completed quilt is washed. Please follow these directions if you wish to pre-wash your batt:
- Hand wash in a basin or tub with a mild detergent. Do not agitate or spin in your washing machine.
- Soak for 20 minutes, then rinse several times.
- Squeeze water out. Rolling in a towel will help to remove excess water.
- Dry in a cool or warm dryer or allow to dry flat.
- 80% natural cotton, 20% low melt polyester
- No glues or scrim, thermally bonded
- Ultra light weight. Stays soft even with heavy machine quilting
- Quilt or tie up to 6" apart
- Quilt top and bottom cling to fabric while quilting requiring less basting
- No bearding, bunching or fiber migration. Stays flat and even
- No prewash required. 5% shrinkage with first wash
- Once quilted, machine wash and dry
