Yes, you can believe your eyes! The nation's leading cotton quilt batting is now better than ever. We've managed to improve on the best and we're grinning from ear to ear. It is easy to see why once you take a look for yourself.

  • Our new ultra-cleaning process extracts a greater percentage of leaves and stems. Virtually unblemished, Warm & Natural batting looks its Sunday best.
  • Our newly refined needlepunch technique better distributes the cotton on both sides of the scrim.
  • Tiny tangles called neps, which once led to dull needles, are nearly eliminated.
  • Warm & Natural needled cotton still uses no chemicals, glues, or resins, so you know that it is gentle enough for even the youngest child.
Quite a list, especially when you consider how great Warm & Natural cotton quilt batting was to begin with! Strong, durable, unbeatably soft, bright, balanced, clean, and 100% guaranteed. Improved Warm & Natural is as exceptional as it sounds. You are going to love it!

The same unbeatable standards!

  • Ideal for any creative project

Perfect for your creative projects

You can see and feel the difference Warm & Natural adds to your artistry. Create magnificent quilts, decorative wall hangings, and wonderful wearable art.

Try dying, tea and coffee staining, and even painting Warm & Natural to give an antique appearance, add vibrant color or give a unique texture to your dolls.

The soft, natural cotton goes through a gentle mechanical cleaning to pick out cotton plant and seed remnants. The tiny plant particles that remain lend a special look to crafts when used as an exterior fabric and will not damage your fabric when used in your quilt. Shrinkage will be about 3% with your first washing. Many quilters prefer not to pre-wash to achieve the unique effect created by the slight shrinkage of the batting when the completed quilt is washed. Please follow these directions if you wish to pre-wash your batt:
  1. Hand wash in a basin or tub with a mild detergent. Do not agitate or spin in your washing machine.
  2. Soak for 20 minutes, then rinse several times.
  3. Squeeze water out. Rolling in a towel will help to remove excess water.
  4. Dry in a cool or warm dryer or allow to dry flat.
Once quilted Warm & Natural cotton batting can be machine washed again and again without fear of separation or bunching.

100% cotton fibers are punched with hundreds of needles into a strong, thin base material to prevent tearing, shifting or migration.

The needling process holds the fibers together without glue or resins. The evenly layered fibers stay in place inside your quilt even with generations of washings.

Love using the Warm & Natural Quilt Batting for ALL my quilts, am looking forward to trying the Warm & Plush Batting when it arrives on the market. I agree with a number of the posts...it's a great product .

I believe this is what I used on my first quilt and my quilts great. Still new at quilting I had no clue what bearding was. Always bought cotton because teacher highly recommended but not sure why. Well, the other day for no reason grabbed walmarts polyester brand yikes! Never doing that again, I now know what bearding is as I notice right after washing the baby blanket it looked linty :(. I read sites saying polyester good for baby quilts being they are washed so much and others say no not good for baby blankets because it melts. How confusing. Bearding sucks, I can't give it away now being i'd hate for a baby to have small fibers in his/ her eye from migration. Yes I've learned that term too. Hehe hahaha. Very glad it was a small project made from my scrap stash :D

Is warm and natural 100% cotton or is it 80-20?

 - Thank you for your question! Warm & Natural is 87.5% cotton fibers and 12.5% Polypropylene scrim. Warm & Natural is made with 100% USA Grown High grade cotton fibers. The cotton fibers are then needlepunched through a extremely thin stabilizer made of polypropylene, which is a polyester fiber. This stabilizer makes Warm & Natural strong and durable! If you would like to try a 100% cotton product, please look for Warm & Plush! Warm & Plush has no scrim, but is still durable and will not separate or bunch inside your quilt - please quilt ever 6"

Love and use this batting 99% of the time.

Rose

I'm interested in creating an art quilt with a lot of shrinkage. can i wash and dry warm & natural on the hottest cycles to achieve maximum shrinkage, or will the product fall apart? thank you so much...

Hello Rose, thank you for your post! You don't want to wash your Warm & Natural batting in the machine because the agitation will pull out the cotton fibers. If you would like to prewash it, you may do so by hand in a basin/tub for 20 min. When finished, squeeze out water - Do not wring it. You may also wrap in towel to absorb excess water. Lay flat to dry. For any questions, feel free to contact us at 800-234-9276

This is my favorite batting!!

Kat

I've used this batting on my first quilt and it was perfect, the weight is reassuring and I love the drape. I will use it again. I'm wondering if you could share the thermal value of the batting (the R value), as I can't see this information.

Hi Kat! Thank you for your post. Although Warm & Natural does have an R value, we don't know the exact number and have not submitted it for thermal testing.

Susan

Love warm and natural! I want to use the sized ones inside a duvet. Will that work?

-Thank you for your post! You may use Warm & Natural in any quilt or craft you like! You only need to quilt or tie as far as 10" apart.

Chris
I use warm & natural in all my quilts! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! I am making some quilted pot holders for Christmas gifts, and wonder if W&N can hold up to the heat, or should I go with something else??

Tonya

I have used this on one quick, but I would like it a little thicker. Would it work to double the thickness for the batting?

-Thank you for your post! We do have a new batting coming out called Warm & Plush that is 50% more thicker than Warm & Natural. However, it's relatively new and it is not out in the market just yet. Warm & Plush will be at most of our regular retailers soon!

Cathy

I love your batting and use it for all of my quilts. I love the crinkled look after washing my quilt. I have a question about quilting 10" apart. Does that mean 10" in all directions? If my sashing is 4 inches wide, but 40" long, do I need to quilt every 10 inches inside the sashing or is it adequate to just quilt along the 4" wide edges and leave more than 10 inches going the opposite direction?

-Thank you! That is perfectly fine! As long as one direction is quilted every 10", you are free with the other direction.

Tina

I have been using Warm & Natural for batting for my last two quilts. I heard it would shrink. For the first quilt I did not prewash the batting. I am not sure if it was a good idea but for the second quilt I prewashed the batting. Shall I prewash it for my future quilts ?

Hi Tina, whether you prewash your quilt or not is up to you. Prewashing is not required. Some quilters do not prewash the batting because they love the "puckering" look the shrinking gives the quilt after first wash. If you do not prefer this look, you may prewash and pre-shrink Warm & Natural for your future quilts. -Can shrink up to 3 %

Karen

I see that you are developing a high loft cotton batting. I am very interested to know if you have a timeframe for when this will be available. I will be working on a headboard project this fall and I would love to be able to use your product.

-Thank you Karen! We are working on getting the product out; it is relatively new! It's called Warm & Plush. 100% Cotton with No scrim, 6 oz per sq yd - that's 50% more cotton than Warm & Natural!

Rebekah Frade

I'd like to use this for the backing of a baby quilt. I see that it is great for batting in quilts and outside fabric on crafts, but will it hold up as a quilt backing?

-Thank you for your question! None of our battings are intended for use as an backing or outer fabric on a blanket or quilt. It can be used as an outer fabric on a craft like a stuffed snow man, or on wall hangings and other art etc.

But if one of our battings is used as an out fabric or backing on a quilt, it is subject to come apart, get dirty, dingy, and become distorted as there is no cover fabric to protect the exposed cotton fiber that is only needle-punched in to a thin based sub-straight or scrim.

All blankets and quilts need to have a fabric/muslin/woven backing to protect the fibrous cotton/polyester batting so that it does not become damaged over time through washing and use.

I've used your product for many years based on my friend's recomendation and love it. I use it the quilts I keep for my family and the many I donate to Project Linus. I love its feel, the way it works with a quilt, and its weight for use on our bed. Love it.

My goodness!! This site was informative, to say the least. I had a gentleman inquire about making a king size quilt using only 100% cotton. In reading through the comments posted and your answers, this inquiry was answered and other questions I had were also answered. Thank you!!

Kortney

I am making a baby blanket for a friend. I was wondering if I can use this batting to complete the task, or if it will be too think and I will have to buy the quilting needle for my sewing machine. I saw that it was an 1/8th inch thick, but I would like some reassurance.

-Hi Kortney,

The batting is 1/8” thick and a quilting needle is advisable for your sewing machine but the standard needle that came with the machine will work just fine.

janet fuglsang

what is the difference between warm tater cotton & warm & natural cotton?

Hi! Great question, thank you! Our Warm Tater is straight 100% cotton batting, ideal for use in creating microwaveable bags. Our Warm & Natural quilt batting is natural cotton that is needle punched into a thin polypropylene scrim which allows you the freedom to quilt up to 10 inches apart.

Warm & Natural needled cotton uses no chemicals, glues, or resins, so you know that it is gentle enough for even the youngest child. It will not separate or bunch nor will it beard while you quilt. Tiny tangles called "neps", which once led to dull needles, are nearly eliminated.

Catherine

Hi, love your product. Do you sell in bulk? Thank you!

-Hi! And thank you! We are strictly a wholesale business and sell only to businesses. If you are a business owner, give us a call and we can set you up an account which allows you to buy in bulk. There are places online who sell our batting by the bolt, however it is retail pricing. I provided a link to Amazon.com below for Warm & Natural batting.

Sue

Hello, is this batting made of 100% cotton? Because the description says "100% cotton fibers are punched with hundreds of needles into a strong, thin base material to prevent tearing, shifting or migration.". At our guild meeting, some people said it was 100% cotton, others said it was not.

Hi Sue! The Warm & Natural is 87.5% cotton and 12.5% Polypropylene. The polypropylene is that strong, thin base material described on the label. We call this a "scrim" which holds the cotton fibers together to prevent shifting and also giving you the freedom to quilt as far as 10" apart. We use only 100% USA grown cotton fibers to make our product-- no unnatural fillers, glue or resins.

Jacque

I just used this for the first time about a week ago and I love how easy it is to quilt with!! It is a wonderful product I will be using this from now on! My only problem is that I dont drive so I have a hard time getting to and from the stores, can I order from the company and have it mailed?

Thank you for you question, Jacque! The Warm Company is strictly a wholesale and we only sell directly to businesses. You can set up an account online with one of our major retailers, such as JoAnn's Fabrics or Hobby Lobby, and you would be order to order off their website and have the product mailed to your door. I provided some links for you below.

Kelly

Could you please tell me how to tell which side should be towards the quilt bottom?

-Thank you for your post, Kelly. Good question! If you hold your Warm & Natural batting up to the light, you’ll notice that one side has flecks in it, natural leaf and stem remnants from the cotton plant. The other side does not. The side with the flecks should face your quilt top. The reverse side (without flecks) will go towards your quilt backing.

Lurel
I always use this batting with the quilts I make and sell! I plan to keep using it for years to come :)

Kelli
Just used this for the first time and I LOVED it.... Will never go back to what I use to use!!!!!!

Lyn
This is the only one I use for my baby quilts now. Love the ease, love the texture, mostly love the purity for babes.

joanna
love it. low loft is easy to work with.

C. Durant
I made several quilts with Warm and Natural batting, and even after washing several times, they look like new. Its a favorite with my Quilt Guild, The Bell Point Quilters Guild in Fort Amith, Arkansaw.

Betty

Does this come in more than one thickness? I ordered one from JoAnns but cannot tell without opening the package.

-Thank you for your question! All of our cotton battings are low loft and weigh 4oz per sq. yd., measuring around 1/8 of an inch thick. We are currently in development of a high loft cotton batting, coming soon!

beth cluchey
I love your product Iam a member of the westfield quilt guild and we use your batting product on all of our comm. service gifts. personally I use it on all of my quilts,runners.etc.

Kathy Jordan
Warm & Natural is the only batting that I buy. I belong to the Westfield Quilt Guid in Westfield, NY and they use Warm & Natural for there Comfort Quilts. Th comfort quilts go to charitable organizations. We are low on batting and would love to new some bating for our comfort quilts.

Michelle
I HIGHLY recommend the Warm Company products, I was introduced to them in 2003 when I started quilting. With this batting, after the quilt is machine quilted then washed, the cotton batting shrinks just enough to give the quilt that \"hand quilted\" crinkled look everytime!

Anibal
I like it!
