Warm Window Hardware Guide

Achieve an airtight seal by affixing adhesive-backed magnetic tape to the window frame or wall and short magnetic strips to the inside edge of the shade. The magnetic strips, although covered by fabric, attach to the tape on the window frame sealing out drafts. Magnetic tape is available in continuous for mounting on the window trim or wall and 3 1/2"-long strips for inside the shade.

Polarity direction is marked on each strip. The wall mounted tape can be painted with latex or enamel to blend with the wall or trim color.

Rings
Rings guide the draw cord and are placed in vertical rows at 8" to 12" intervals on every other horizontal channel quilting line. Choose durable plastic or attractive brass rings for your shade. Use a Buttoneer to apply rings without sewing, significantly reducing shade-making time.

Simply insert the needles into the shade and squeeze the trigger to attach the rings to the shade in the same way that price tags are attached to clothing. If you use the Buttoneer to apply your rings, we recommend reinforcing the bottom row of rings with stitching.

Cord
Available in 1 mm and 2 mm diameters, the cord runs along the back of the shade and through the pulley to open and close the shade. The strong cord stays flexible and won't yellow or become brittle with age.

Pulleys The pulley is the cord guide at the operating end of the shade. Use the standard pulley with a cleat to keep the shade elevated. The standard pulley is recommended for larger shades with more than six cords. The locking pulley keeps the shade elevated without the use of a cleat. It is available in plastic or metal.

To string the plastic locking pulley:

String the cords over the white portion of the locking mechanism.

Replace the brass piece and the base bars, arranging cords evenly between prongs. Don't put any cords between the outside prongs and the pulley wall.

  1. Use 2 mm cord. 1 mm cord may not catch on the grip holder.
  2. Guide your cord over the top of the roller.
  3. Run cord along the inside edge of the pulley facing the grip holder.

Cord Reel
The cord reel is a combination cord pull and storage unit for the extra length of cording that hangs down when your shade is elevated. It keeps the cords safely away from small children and pets.

To string the cord reel:
Insert the cords through the hole at the top of the cover. Hole can be enlarged with the end of scissors or some other blunt object. Slide the cover over the cords. Tie the cord ends to the center rung of the "ladder" or reel base. Slide the cover down over the base of the reel, matching the notches of the ridged tabs.

To raise the cord reel to a higher position, slide the cover up the cord and wind the cord around the top and bottom rung of the "ladder" or base. When you reach the desired height, slide the cover over the base.

Screw Eyes
Screw eys are attached to the mounting board and serve as cord guides at the top of your shade. You will need one screw eye for each cord to guide it to the pulley.

Mounting Screws
These 2"-long screws are used to attach the mounting board to the window frame or wall. Molly screws or toggle bolts may be needed if the shade cannot be attached to wall studs.

Weight Bar
A 3/8" diameter round or oval, steel or aluminum weight bar is required at the bottom of the shade to give it rigid stability. The Warm Window weight bar consists of pipe sections and rods that slip inside the pipe. You can join sections of the weight bar by staggering the joints of each pipe and rod.

Side-draw Track Kit
The perfect solution for patio doors. This unique track system permits Warm Window to be fabricated and installed vertically like a drapery. The specialized track has a magnetic face that creates a seal at the top of the shade. Each kit contains:

  • 2 tracks, each 54" long
  • 14 sliding snap carriers
  • 4 end caps
  • 7/8" nylon snap tape 112" long
  • 30" drapery wand
  • 1 plastic connector
  • 2 blocking screws

The only items you need to complete assembly are Warm Window fabric, decorative cover fabric, magnetic tape, and spray adhesive.
